Julian Lage’s vibrant and richly textured new album, Speak To Me, is an intimate yet ambitious journey through melody, emotion, and narrative. Blending gospel hymns, rural blues, surf rock, and raw-edged jazz, Lage creates a diverse sonic landscape that speaks beyond words.

Written during a burst of inspiration in early 2023—often while on tour—these songs reflect his ongoing search for storytelling through music. Whether contemplative, as in the gentle Omission and Serenade, or rhythmically bold like the explosive 76, each track captures a distinct emotional current.

The album features a wide range of formats: solo acoustic, duos, his signature trio with bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King, and expanded arrangements with keys and woodwinds. Produced by Joe Henry, Speak To Me balances Lage’s improvisational gifts with a deep respect for song structure, highlighting his evolution as a composer.
The result is a collection that feels cohesive yet spontaneous—music that reveals itself slowly and rewards close listening, shaped by trust, collaboration, and a profound sense of purpose.
