After countless hours together and nearly three decades as a duo, Michel Camilo and Tomatito continue to explore the full range of colors their instruments offer, driven by the deep connection and tireless passion for learning that each reunion brings.
«We still laugh every time we meet, on and off stage,» says Camilo. «We couldn’t make the kind of music we do if we weren’t so in tune with each other,» adds Tomatito.
This duo was born in 1997 with no other goal than to see how the two artists would connect that night. Now, in their fourth joint album, Spain Forever Again, Camilo reflects on the recording and their live performances: «Nothing is missing, nothing is extra. Experience can’t be improvised.»
The repertoire for this unique culmination of a four-album journey includes music by Chucho Valdés, Pat Metheny, Miles Davis, Joaquín Rodrigo, and La leyenda del tiempo, a piece closely associated with Camarón de la Isla.
